Diabetes care is evolving swiftly, with innovations reshaping diabetes management strategies. Digital initiatives from AI-driven screening to remote monitoring are improving the patient journey at each level of service delivery. This includes screening, evidence-based treatment, home-based management, complication prevention, behavioral coaching, etc.
The Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) is the largest association of clinicians dedicated to the care of people with diabetes in Asia, with over 13,000 members across 23 states in India.
To support RSSDI members in harnessing digital advancements and improving diabetes care in India, the Koita Centre for Digital Diabetology (KCDD - RSSDI) has been established.
KCDD - RSSDI was founded in April 2024 with support from the Koita Foundation, a not-for-profit organization committed to accelerating Digital Health adoption in India. The Centre aims to leverage digital technologies to enhance diabetes management, drive research and innovation, and collaborate with stakeholders across the diabetology ecosystem to promote the development and adoption of digital tools in diabetes care.
Digital health innovations are opening new possibilities in diabetes care-connecting clinicians and patients through real-time insights, personalized guidance, and continuous support. By embracing telemedicine and interoperable health systems, we can transcend distance, break down barriers to care, and reach communities everywhere. Together, guided by innovation and compassion, we can reimagine diabetes prevention and care and create healthier futures for all.
With responses from 350+ members, the technology survey highlighted a low adoption of digital tools. Findings indicated that less than 40% of members use Clinic Management Systems and less than 10% use telemedicine. On the positive side, the survey also revealed a strong interest in adopting digital solutions among the diabetologists. Members expressed interest in areas like CGM integration, selection of patient apps, and clinic decision support systems. These insights have guided KCDD - RSSDI’s Digital Health strategy.
